Design should be about developing new visions, forms and meanings that relate to our world today. It is essential to start with the concept and then develop a form around that concept. For Becker Brakel I wanted to design a beautiful yet functional chair that is also stackable. Becker Brakel are experts in molded wood and molded fleece and offered me the perfect parameters to think sculpturally and conceptually about the idea.

The Drape Chair combines solid wood legs with a molded veneer seat and a backrest that appears folded or draped for subtle flexibility and movement. The square legs contrast with the soft curves, creating a balance between craftsmanship and contemporary design. Inviting yet bold, it combines timeless materials with an aesthetically enduring expression.

The LIKA chair is characterized by a seat shell that seems to flow gently over the wooden frame, giving the design an organic and harmonious touch. The solid wood frame impresses with its clear, geometric lines and angled legs that combine stability and lightness. The rounded shapes of the molded fleece seat shell contrast elegantly with the precise wood structures, while the ribbed texture underlines the modern character.

This chair appears as a single, coherent object. The legs merge seamlessly into the backrest, whereby the radii are harmoniously coordinated and a flowing form is created from the backrest to the seat shell. The seat shell consists of a molded wooden part, which gives the chair a clear, uniform aesthetic and high stability.

The interplay of light and shadow has a decisive influence on how we rediscover shapes throughout the day. PADD is a family of upholstered furniture with a pleated back that reveals itself in countless facets when the light falls on it. Thanks to the molded fleece incorporated into the backrest upholstery, the soft contours of the backrest upholstery are transformed into a tangible structure. The pressed fleece shell allows a precise surface of gradients and lines.

The idea behind the Ribbon Chair is a continuous band of molded oak wood, which determines both the character of the chair and its construction. Thanks to the outwardly turned rear legs, the chair is very stackable and can therefore be used in many scenarios – both in private living and dining areas as well as in public buildings.

The battery-operated Shell table lamp skillfully showcases the nonwoven material in an inspiring and innovative way. Both the shade and the supporting base are made of 3D-shaped 3mm molded fleece. It lends the rechargeable lamp its lightness and homeliness. The shade has a layer of white molded fleece on the inside to ensure that the light is reflected even in dark exterior colors.

The design aims to revive the good old construction principle of molded plywood chairs developed in the mid-20th century. Sustainably designed with only two easily separable materials, the chair frame is molded from local beach veneer, and the foamless upholstery of the seat and backrest is made of a self-supporting textile. The frame is designed for efficient industrial production, where 30-40 parts can be formed in one operation. The textile is easy to assemble and can be easily replaced.

The Spooky Chair was designed as part of an artificial intelligence (AI) experiment in which apps and software were asked to create design sketches. The result is a minimalist and sophisticated piece of furniture with a versatile look. The chair is made of bent wood veneer and solid wood.

A family of luminaires made of molded fleece. A simple twisting movement turns two-dimensionality into three-dimensionality. Thin LED lighting is inserted along the entire length of one side. The spiral thus provides direct and indirect light. The luminaire family includes a pendant luminaire, a wall luminaire and a floor luminaire in various sizes.
